 ইহুদী সাহিত্যিক রুথ ফেল্ডম্যানের ‘Lilith’ সবচেয়ে সুন্দর করে নিজের রূপটি প্রকাশ করেছে- “Half of me is beautiful,  But you were never sure which half.”

লিলিথকে পাওয়া যায় ইহুদী মিথলজিতে। ইহুদী মিথলজির বিখ্যাত চরিত্র এই লিলিথ। বিখ্যাত না বলে সম্ভবত ‘কুখ্যাত’ বললেই অনেকে সঠিক বলবে। লিলিথ চরিত্রটি অঙ্কুরিত হয় মূলত ৩য় থেকে ৫ম শতাব্দীর মাঝামাঝিতে, ব্যবিলনীয় তালমুদ বা পুরাণে। শব্দটির প্রচলিত অর্থ রাত্রি হলেও পুরাণের লিলিথ চরিত্রকে দেখানো হয় অন্ধকারের পিশাচ রূপে, যার বিচরণ ছিল রাতের অন্ধকারে। সে ছিল উতলা কাননের অধিকারিণী, যার কাজ নবজাতক শিশু চুরি করে নিয়ে যাওয়া।

As per Britannica, Lilith is, a female demonic figure of Jewish folklore. Her name and personality are thought to be derived from the class of Mesopotamian demons called lilû (feminine: lilītu), and the name is usually translated as “night monster.” A cult associated with Lilith survived among some Jews as late as the 7th century CE. The evil she threatened, especially against children and women in childbirth, was said to be counteracted by the wearing of an amulet bearing the names of certain angels.

On the other hand, nowadays, she is the poster child for dark goddesses throughout time. However, she has been sorely misaligned, for Lilith was not always a dark goddess. Originally, she represented the mystery, the strength, and the sexual vitality of womanhood.
